Strep throat

Post by ttf_tbones7 »

Two of my grandsons were just diagnosed with strep. One plays trumpet, the other, trombone. Outside of giving their horns a good, old-fashioned scrubbing out with soap & water, is there anything else that could/should be done to disinfect their instruments?

Thanks,
Jake

Strep throat

The most important thing to work on is the mouthpiece.  Strep is tough to kill.

One possibility is to put them through a "Sani" cycle in the dishwasher (you may have to impale them on one of the tines).  Don't do this with a plastic mouthpiece.

Or an overnight soak in mouthwash.

If you decide to soak the mouthpiece in Lysol (disinfectant) you should wash it VERY well to get all the Lysol off.
