Any input on quality of Andreas Eastman student trombones?

Post by Kingfan »

One is selling locally on Facebook for $150. Looks good in the picture, and was supposedly used only two years in jazz band. Is it a good trombone for the money, or just another Chinese stencil? TIA for any input.

It's a Chinese made instrument for sure. But there was a relationship between Shires and Eastman long before the purchase, which included Steve Shires and others from the Massachusetts Shires factory traveling to China to consult and teach manufacturing methods. I expect $150 for an Eastman student instrument is probably a pretty good buy.

For $150, that's a steal. If I were buying a student horn I'd be happy to pay 300 for the Eastman

Thanks! I'll buy it. I pick up nicely priced good quality used student horns and donate them to a charity that provides instruments and lessons to kids who couldn't afford them otherwise. I've got a pristine Getzen I paid $80 for and two trumpets sitting in the closet waiting to go. Just today I was given a nice Yamaha trumpet for free that needs repairs, and will pay to have it fixed then donate it too. I've played trombone for over 55 years and it has been a blessing to me in many ways, so I'm passing along the opportunity to play music to others.

The slide was sticky until I threw some lube on it. Good case. The seller asked me what I was going to do with it and when i told her it was to be donated she dropped the price to $100!
