Personal anecdote: When I was in middle school, the local community college—College of the Redwoods—had an incredible jazz program. The leaders of the program—Gerry Moore, pianist, and ????, trumpet—invited a ton of big names as guests, like Bill Watrous, Frank Rosolino, and… Frank Rehak.

He was pretty old and tired by that point—this was the late ‘70s, perhaps early ‘80s—and he looked like he’d been rode hard and put away wet. But he could still play. He gave a talk/demo. I didn’t know enough to ask any questions, but I remember I amazed that someone could still play, given what he told about himself. Also some of his avant garde/extended techniques, especially vocalizing while playing.

Wonderful piece, Jacob, thank you.

I have a really important question: how do you pronounce his name?
