Chinese Bass Mouthpieces
Anyone tried them? I got six Jim Bau trombones for free many years ago. The trombone cases are very good. I gave away all but one. Tried them all. Playable yes, but valves and slide never works smooth. The mouthpiece seems to be a copy of the Bach 1 1/2g. First try was very good, felt comfortable and sounded ok in my ears. Then I made a recording. Legato was down, attack was down, sound was ok but not full.

The large shank Y-Fort 6-1/2AL that came with my Y-Fort tenor is one of the funniest mouthpieces I've ever tried. I would imagine the bass mouthpieces are similar.
I've played some nice Chinese trumpet mouthpieces, so they have the capability. But I spoke with a rep for a Chinese instrument retailer at NAMM today and he basically said that while they do include mouthpieces with the horns, they pretty much expect that people are going to use their own. It doesn't seem like taking some of the big mouthpiece brands' market share is something they're interested in pursuing at the moment.
