I modified my King 607F and have been using a Shires M2 lead pipe. To me, King's seem a little harsh (maybe bright would be more appropriate). The Shires lead pipe really opened the horn up but the whole point of getting the original pipe pulled was the ability to use other pipes.
I got a Butler 0.525 carbon fiber lead pipe with Shires (coarse) threads. It's a few inches short than the Shires and is super flexible. It also takes a bit of the edge off the sound though you can still make the horn bark.
What I thought was a nice touch, the Butler lead pipe came in an orange container that had flat slides so it wouldn't roll around the shelf. My Shires pipe fit in the container and I left the Butler in the horn.
I'm a satisfied customer.

Re: Butler Trombone CF Lead Pipe
Hello,
I’m currently seeking information regarding alternative lead pipes to use with my Conn SL2525 .525” slide (see thread under “Instruments”). I’m curious about your path to the Butler…
What playing perceptions guided your migration from the Shires pipe to the Bulter pipe? Did you try other pipes before you landed on the Butler? If so, which makes/models?
Kindly share details about your journey from Shires > Butler. Any 411 would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Butler Trombone CF Lead Pipe
Actually Shires was my first choice. I tried the Butler as an option to try. I liked the Butler more because it allowed a sound that was more to what I had in my head. Both were major improvements over the stock pipe. Butler was less expensive too.
