Improvising bass trombonists

Post by EriKon »

Just stumbled over some Bill Reichenbach recordings where he improvised over some jazz standards. I always like the sound of an improvising bass trombone.
What other improvising btb players can you think of?

Well, lots of guys who double on bass trombone at a high level play great jazz on it. I'm thinking of Andy Martin and Alex Iles off the top of my head.

Check out Max Seigel: https://maxseigel.bandcamp.com/

Bluebird is an album of standards with a quartet, and it's beautiful.

Dave Taylor gets the occasional improv moment in Bob Mintzer's band.
