Dolly Bags

Post by gregwaits »

Anyone else have a Dolly gig bag? I don’t see too many. I love mine. Styled like the original Reunion Blues, but with a large accessory pocket on the side opposite the slide compartment.

Have an old Edwards bass bag, which was a Dolly bag.

Main case I’ve used for over 2 decades. Still in good shape.

I love mine. But it says "Edwards" on the side of it. Might be slightly different than the Dolly Bag offering. (?) - Doug

Of a certain age, they were just the same Dolly Bag with the “Edwards” written on the one trim spot.

This matches mine and all the Dolly bags I’ve ever seen:

It’s only too bad that she went out of business.

I’m on my second one. The first one had Edwards on it. It was carrying a 42B that I bought on Ebay. Sold the Bach, kept the case. It started to look rough.

I was lucky to find another one.

I have an old Tuxedo bass trombone gig bag with a similar design including the pouch on the outside. I think they still make that design, but it's hard to tell because they don't seem to have a functioning website.

Man, I had a 90’s Tuxedo tenor bag that was very similar and awesome. Sold it with a horn to a friend… still wish I had that horn AND that bag. They changed the tuxedo shape just a little and the newer version was so much worse. Now I use this bass Edwards/Dolly bag even with my large tenors.

If I can get a newer semi-hard gig case I like even half as much as this bag I would switch over… but alas I haven’t found one.

If you’re looking for hybrid bags there is also the other bonna case with a fiberglass half shell and then full slide protection on the other side, before I got my bell cut it was my go to bag for nyc commuting

I have three horns in those now.

In my opinion, it's the perfected design of the Reunion Blues O Style, which I still use for two horns.

I've spent time staring at those photos on a few occasions.

Other than that long foam pad in between the slide tubes, is there anything which prevents the weight of the bell section from being borne by the middle of the tubes, especially when you buckle it in? Like, is that flap rigid or something?

The piece that holds the end of the slide in place is rigid.

The bell and slide are not in contact.
