"Car/auto" music suggestions
Hi guys,
A friend of mine is having a party to celebrate the 50th birthday of his VW beetle. At his parties he gets people to "do a turn" so I'm planning on taking my 'bone to do a piece.
I can't think of any fun solo pieces that would be appropriate. Can anyone suggest anything related to cars/autos, VWs or Beetles? Has to be fun to play, fun to listen to, not overly difficult and would work with no accompaniment.
Any thoughts?

Do you remember a song called "Beep Beep"? It was a funny number about a little car outrunning a Cadillac. Here are the lyrics:
The only other car songs I can think of are not VW related. "In My Merry Oldsmobile" doesn't work.
And here is another one:[Very Slow]
While riding in my Cadillac,
What to my surprise.
A little Nash Rambler was following me -
About one third my size.
The guy must've wanted to pass me up
As he kept on tooting his horn. Beep! Beep!
I'll show him that a Cadillac
Is not a car to scorn.
Beep Beep. Beep! Beep! Beep Beep. Beep! Beep!
His horn went Beep Beep beep. Beep! Beep!
[Slow]
I pushed my foot down to the floor
To give the guy the shake.
But the little Nash Rambler stayed right behind;
He still had on his brake.
He must have thought his car had more guts
As he kept on tooting his horn. Beep! Beep!
I'll show him that a Cadillac
Is not a car to scorn.
Beep Beep. Beep! Beep! Beep Beep. Beep! Beep!
His horn went Beep Beep beep. Beep! Beep!
[Normal]
My car went into passing gear
And we took off with gust.
Soon we were doing ninety -
Must've left him in the dust.
When I peeked in the mirror of my car,
I couldn't believe my eyes:
The little Nash Rambler was right behind -
I think that guy could fly.
Beep Beep. Beep! Beep! Beep Beep. Beep! Beep!
His horn went Beep Beep beep.
[Faster]
Now we're doing a hundred and ten -
This certainly was a race.
For a Rambler to pass a Caddy
Would be a big disgrace.
The guy must've wanted to pass me up
As he kept on tooting his horn.
I'll show him that a Cadillac
Is not a car to scorn.
Beep Beep. Beep! Beep! Beep Beep. Beep! Beep!
His horn went Beep Beep beep.
[Fastest]
Now we're doing a hundred and twenty -
As fast as I could go.
The Rambler pulled along side of me
As if we were going slow.
The fellow rolled down his window
And yelled for me to hear,
"Hey, Buddy, how can I get this car
Out of second gear! "
Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
The only other car songs I can think of are not VW related. "In My Merry Oldsmobile" doesn't work.

"Da Da Da" ( probably doesn't work, but it was the first thing popped into my head.

Hey, I do remember that song (I'm not as young as I look )...
That could work. I have one of those bulb-type hooters for my bike so I could take that along and ham the whole thing up...
Thanks
But still open to other suggestions...

A song from The Beatles might be appropriate... Baby You Can Drive My Car.
Go to NPR and listen to old versions of Car Talk. 2 MIT educated car mechanics had a hilarious talk show on public radio for years. They always featured car related music.

The other song I showed (YouTube link) is actually about a VW in Britain. I had never heard it before.

Not that it would translate to trombone very well, but the group Kraftwerk did an album called "Autobahn" and it featured a VW engine starting up and going from one stereo speaker to the other. Very cool.
I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are still missing!

Re: "Car/auto" music suggestions
Speaking of the Cars, my one and only visit to a recording studio, circa 1990 -- to record a couple of horn lines over a song on a friend's CD -- was at Syncro Sound on Newbury St. in Boston... which was owned by the Cars, and was (in an earlier incarnation) where Aerosmith recorded "Dream On." No lie. The CD (it was called "Lighten Up, This Ain't Brain Surgery") had a car song called "Drive the Beater."
It's got a little rust,
got a few dents,
the blah-blah-blah-bla-blah-blah (can't quite remember the line),
the grille's cracked and bent.
No new Rolls-Royce would make my life sweeter,
she's the car of choice, I drive a beater!
