With the goal of trying to feed more discussion of music here, I thought it might be interesting to see what sites and blogs others are checking out, along with sharing some of my favs. Here are some:

Portland Jazz Festival

The festival's artistic director, Bill Royston, is one of the most eclectic and experienced festival programmers and presenters in the world, and I like his tone and endless curiosity.

the bad plus blog and webzine is primarily the work of Ethan Iverson, the pianist in the trio, but he gathers many other forces and collaborators for a great read.

Darcy James Argue's Secret Society

I firmly believe Darcy is going to be one of the major voices in large ensembles for the next decade+. If he ever loses his comp/arranging steam, he'd make one helluva writer/journalist.

Dialing up a little Teagarden as I write - thanks Mama. If I listen to x minutes of trad, can I get you to listen to x minutes of more modern jazz?

What do you think of John Allred's stuff? If you say anything about high or fiddly, I think I'll throw my computer through the wall.....but hey, your entitled to your opinion, right?

What else are you checking out in the great wide musical world? The musical blogosphere?

I'm not currently checking anything else out, Chip, and I'm not at all interested in blogs. However, if there was an informative and easily accessible site such as redhotjazz, offering the sort of music you mention, I might do so. Can you recommend any?

That's exactly what I'm describing here in this thread, though not necessarily in the format you describe. I hope you'll partake, not only as a musician, but as a hopefully well informed moderator on this fine forum.

I've really been diggin this one lately, having read lengthy interviews on Pete Christlieb, Victor Feldman....digs into each person/musician much deeper than most any mag or site I can think of.

The present feature is on Bill Crow, the fine bassist/author.

One of my favorite bands led by one of my favorite drummers, Brian Blade, is the featured live concert on NPR's series, "Live from The Village Vanguard". Check it out along with a long list of archived concerts, some even downloadable rather than just streamable.

So I bit on an email promo for Alice Russell - great blue eyed soul from England. But the bigger discovery for me was this site, fabchannel.com. It's all live shows in good quality from what I can tell so far, and from many genres.

Dave Liebman, one of my favorite musicians and artistic thinkers, puts out his bimonthly newsletter in blog form as above. Check it out for news on his doings, along with thoughts on the scene and art in general.

I've never heard the sound of Miles Davis' voice before he damaged his vocal chords, but this 1953 radio broadcast recording from St. Louis gives us another view of the enigma called Miles, along with a midwestern DJ's views and tone, for better or worse:
