As I will certainly also want to play it a bit, what are your thoughts?
Not asking for specific exercises, method books etc., but on how to approach cornet/high brass in general as a trombonist/low brass player. (Valves are not an issue for me)
I would assume this might be a good general starting point:
- not play loud
- aim for getting to a good and soft response
- getting the embouchure as compact as humanly possible (for a trombonist
)- try to first develop some stability in the middle register
- experiment with how much tongue is needed/working
- potentially bending notes and trying to find the actual focus
- play simple melodies to get a good feel for the sound
What do you think? How have you got into some high brass playing?
(I do not aim to ever play it in public, but to get a general feel for it and maybe play some duets and maybe practice with my son(s) at some point. My brother is a very good trumpet player and can certainly be a better role model and at some point they would certainly get proper lessons if they want to)
