good slide techs in the Bay Area

Post by Nolankberk »

Hello TC

I've been having a really annoying issue with drag in 4/5th position, seems like it could possibly(?) be a problem with the stockings. Took it into my local tech and they just threw it in the ultrasonic and gave it back, didn't seem to change anything. Looking for some recommendations for good repair techs around here, as I notice this issue every time that I play.

Your "local tech" is no tech. Greenbean or other chatters in the S. F. Bay Area can direct you to a competent trombone technician who may be able to better address your warped / misaligned (?) slide.

I used Wind & Brass on Solano in Berkeley when I was in San Francisco.

Most of my work goes to Shawn at Wind & Brass in Berkeley. Rachel and Bryan at Best Repair in Oakland are also good. There are a couple others, too.

You can PM if you want more info.

Thanks guys. When I went to shawn previously he recommended a pricey inner replacement, but I'll check back with him and see what I can do.

King inner tubes are priced pretty low compared with some others, like Bach.

My guess: slide is warped and/or misaligned.
May be readily repairable by a good tech.
Or may need new straight & true inner slides.
Life is too short to live with bad slides!
