Chick Corea Concerto Recording Now Out
Joseph Alessi just recorded the Chick Corea Concerto this month. YouTube Music is streaming it legally through the distributor so watching it will generate revenue for the label, and hopefully Joe and Boston Brass. It's a pretty cool piece, check it out:

Wait, it's for Joe and brass ensemble, not orchestra? Looking forward to checking it out either way. Thanks for the heads-up!

Re: Chick Corea Concerto Recording Now Out
The orchestration and this wind version are by the same person (i.e. not CC), so fair enough.
I watched the Sao Paulo video from the premiere at the time (it seems to have subsequently disappeared into the YouTube void), and hadn't listened again until now.
Same impression, really... good ideas, which might not (and might not be intended to) become more than the sum of their parts. Some of this is inherent in the episodic/vignette/standalone character mvt concept... it's enjoyable, there's certainly activity/spectacle for the soloist, but as a piece it strikes me as rather static.

Joe tends to record with wind orchestras, maybe because he is an educator. Not exactly sure why.

There's more opportunity and it's cheaper.

Sketches intended for orchestration and a piano accompaniment/reduction aren't really the same thing, even if both appear on a grand staff, so it'll be another job for the orchestrator.AtomicClock wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 5:47 pmI wonder if the CC version will be published as-is for the piano/recital version.

I've listened to the first movement so far, and the wind band version is ok. However, I saw this live at the New York Philharmonic back in May, and the strings add a lot of depth to the piece. But I'm glad that I finally have a full recording of this concerto.

Yeah one of the only Concerto recordings I've heard of Joe with orchestra that isn't live was of the Rouse concerto. Yet every time I've heard him play a Concerto in person, it was with an orchestra.
