I'm a sucker for Bachs, but I'm also a sucker for fully chromatic horns.

I've had the M&W on the right for a while now- it's the best bass I've ever owned and I highly recommend everyone get one. It's got a magic Corp 50 bell I've had on many horns.

On the left is my double valve 42 built by Benn Hansson, this time with another magic corp 42 bell.


In the middle is my latest project, a modular bass built around 3 bells- the other two will have to wait, but most importantly here is a corp 45 bell I got last year. In stock form it was fine, the rotor on the original section was obviously completely shot and I couldn't really get a read on how it played.

Turns out, with two Bosc rotors in .593... it plays great!!

Do you find the double valve on the tenor makes the sound too heavy for that size of horn?

I'm no principal player, but no- that horn actually sings with a 3G threaded for DE rims.

If anything, that configuration probably makes it slightly more balanced. Although I had a dependent tenor that was a little closer to the Bach 50B2 style wrap and it wasn't all that bad from a weight perspective. Having the dependent option is really, really nice. If I had more funds right now, I'd put a cage on at least one of mine.

I see you like the M&W Bach. If I had the $$ now, and of course a good donor, I'd do it!

Other bell came in today- King 1485 sterling silver with matching tuning slide.

Very similar size to the 45 in most ways but COMPLETELY different sound and response.
