I'm being told by some people that I shouldn't play for 3 weeks to let the incision heal due to the valsalva effect. Have any of you heard or have experience with this? I have to teach brass at our band camp late August and I can sit on a stool for that but I might need to demo some stuff. What do you think? Any info will be helpful.

Hi Tim, if you didn't see it, look through other thread which would particularly include valsalva limitations

A week or two, yeah plan for it. 3 hopefully would be an upper bound.

Had 2 total knee replacements back late 2020 and early 2021. Outpatient, walked from car to house unaided by anything. 10 days after first knee shoveled foot of snow off sidewalk. 2 days after 2nd knee shoveled 4” of snow. Date indicates Covid era…schools closed down. Trumpet playing grandson had all his senior high first trumpet music at home. Probably at about the 3 week period I picked up my trumpet and we practiced all his music few times a week to keep chops in shape. First couple weeks spent with hourly walks, home nursing twice a week, and home therapy 3 days, sorta takes horn playing out of the pic during those 2 weeks.

And good luck with your surgery. I feel 30 years younger.
