Getzen 425?

Just curious if anyone has any info regarding the Getzen 400 series trombones. I bought this locally and it was described as being a 1036F, but after looking it over and seeing the 400 series marking on the bell, I told the seller that I didn’t think it was and made them an offer based on it being a 400 student series horn. Anyways, I tried looking up model numbers, but being as this series is discontinued, I couldn’t really find much info regarding it. It has a 8.25” gold brass bell with a .525” yellow brass slide. Any ideas what this horn is?

Very well preserved 425, intermediate at best. It's a solid horn.

My best guess is that it's a 1036F with a gold brass bell. It could be a special order. I wouldn't be surprised If Getzen uses the same bells on their student, intermediate, and Eterna professional trombones. From what I've read, (The review by Steve Ferguson's hornguys.com in particular) the (discontinued) Getzen 451 plays like a pro trombone. I could not find any reference to a Getzen 425 trombone on the internet. Getzen did make intermediate trombones (525 and 725) with a dual bore (.525 .547), but they have different valve wraps. Do you like the way the trombone plays, or would you prefer to have a 1036F with a yellow brass bell (that very well could be the bell Getzen uses on their 300 series trombone)?

This horn is indeed a 425, the model number is the first half of the serial number on the bell. The 1025F/FR (predecessor to the 1036F/FR) was stamped the same way, not sure if the 1036F was as well. Perhaps the 425 came before, or was a lower tier companion to the 1025F. There is very little record of the pre-1036F Getzen .525s...I'd love to see some older Getzen catalogs.

Never seen one of these but the 1036 and 1025 are both solid horns, so I'm very curious how this one plays.
