I'm considering trying to acquire some of the alternate slides for my 88HO. Partly for curiosity and for extra options depending on the situation. How different is the 547/562 dual bore from the straight 562? I have some dual bores so I have some experience, but all mine are small/medium, so I no experience with the larger cousins and was curious. Trying to learn more before committing.

The "4762" (large dual bore) has the same leadpipes* (S, M and R) as the "4747" (single .547"), whereas the "6262" has a different set (B, C and D) meant for bass trombone (read: the current 62H). Thus, the blow between the two WILL be different: the "6262" will favor the lower register and overtones. I don't remember any other differences like oversleeves.

*The tenor pipes are S for standard (Morse taper, same as the fixed pipe), M for a Marcellus design (differences escape me), and R for those who have mouthpieces with the longer, slower "Remington" taper (otherwise, same as S). I think the bass pipes are progressively more open from B to D, but don't quote me there.

If you only have either medium option ("2525" or "2547"), I'd seek out the "4747" (or even the stock .547" slide with the fixed pipe) first and see how you get on with a standard large bore slide.

I my opinion, if you like the the 547/562 you'll like the straight 562 even more. I've owned a couple horns with the the dual bore - a Holton 156, a Holton 159 (like a 156 with a valve - more bassish) and a Wessex Super Tenor (probably based on the 159). The Holton 156 was a great big orchestral horn, and is probably pretty close to the Conn setup.

My favorite alternate slide for the 88h is the 2525. Really makes a great bone even more nimble and easy to manage. The 2547 in my opinion is a half-measure;it doesn't go quite far enough.

The 562 slide (SL6262) is the slide used in the 110H/112H bass.. For some reason they decided to make it lightweight (no nickel silver sleeves).. As far as I know the dual bore 547/562 have these sleeves. I don't like the 562 slide as the lighter weight makes the big slide combo sound a bit spread.. Your mileage may vary, on that ,though !
