I am planning to purchase Schmeltzer 3 recently. I heard that they are based on Williams and should be suitable for various scenarios?
I'm not used to playing 1 or 2 parts with a. 508 trombone, I prefer a. 525 size trombone
Also, the Wilson 311/310 looks good. If anyone has played both brands of instruments at the same time, what would be the best? I would like to hear your advice
Schmeltzer 3 Is it suitable for playing jazz music?

Schmelzer 3 is suitable for jazz. I've never played a Willson.
If you feel bound to something .525, you'll also likely find a King 3B+/F, Bach 36/B, Rath R3/F, Conn 79H/78H, or any number of Yamaha medium bores suitable.

Will the sliding rail of Schmelzer 3 be wider than that of Conn 88H?TromboneSam wrote: Sun Mar 22, 2026 8:40 pm Schmelzer 3 is suitable for jazz. I've never played a Willson.

I'm not sure, but I'd assume that if anything, it'd be narrower. In most photos I've seen, the slide does not look wide.Tubaaiyue wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 6:55 amWill the sliding rail of Schmelzer 3 be wider than that of Conn 88H?TromboneSam wrote: Sun Mar 22, 2026 8:40 pm Schmelzer 3 is suitable for jazz.
