You may well know the Multi-Tony, and Grammy award winning musical, known on Broadway for the playing of Brian Drye, but it's not doing so well in the West End, if discounted tickets left right and centre are anything to go by. Really appears to be a marmite musical for us Brits. (Sorry, for those that don't know, Marmite is a savoury spread made from concentrated yeast extract, and you either love it, or hate it)
The current trombonist is Daniel Higham. He won the Musicians’ Company’s Young Jazz Musician Award in 2021, plays in the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Orchestra and has appeared with major artists (Reye, Robbie Williams, Jamie Cullum).
He's absolutely brilliant, and well worth getting a £30 ticket just to see and hear him. The current cast is largely excellent, and those that aren't, are merely very, very good. I've just seen it for the second time, and am examining my diary for when I can go for a third helping.
And I get to play the Teen version in July!
