How many of you have done modifications to your cases? I'm particularly interested in paint jobs, but interior mods or restorations are also cool to hear about.

I want to DIY jazz up a stock case, and just looking for some ideas.

Well, I have Bach cases. Old ones. Decent shape, but don’t fit the new valves. I removed the divider on the box coffin from the 60s, and unscrewed the block from the French case from the 40s. Left the bell areas pretty open. I was going to make a new block and clamp for each to hold the new valve sections nicely, but I found a couple of decent foam blocks and pads and just use them that way.

I’ll do it right… eventually. But it works decently enough for how little I use a hard case.

Cheers,
Andy

In high school, I attached an old skateboard truck and wheels on my square King case so's I could drag it around. Worked great! Until it got pushed into the case during some tomfoolery.

A few years ago I pulled apart the case that came with my Ullmann Basstrombone to repair a fracture in the wood and some really good and warn out fabric.

Signature from the original maker from 100 years ago was still there hidden under the fabric, which I thought was cool.

Not a bad job if I say so myself.

Best

Very nice work, and an interesting case and horn to start with. Very cool.

I don't have any pics but I know there are probably a couple dozen DJ Kennedy cases floating around out there covered in art. He would often paint very elaborate, full murals on the sides of the french style King 2B cases, or on the Conn flatliner style cases. I'm sure he's also done a few of the King coffin cases. Maybe someone here has one and can share a pic.
