I may try to go to ATW this year. I haven't been since 2016. Is it necessary to get a visitor's pass ahead of time these days?

Security at base gates is currently in flux due to recent events. I don't have the answer but I would bet on it changing between now and then a few times.

I'll try to ask around

Thanks. The TUSAB hasn't put much info at all on the website yet other than guest artists.

They posted a schedule, but it only has Weds and Thursday on it. Is this still a 4 day event?

I'm expecting to exhibit Thursday-Friday-Saturday.
Haven't heard anything different.

Got it thanks. Looks like a whole bunch of college trombone choirs. One of the Saturday soloists, Robyn Smith was in the trombone choir with me at the Southeast Trombone Symposium was back in 2015. I was right next to her. She had just graduated HS and was headed to NECM. I could tell way back then that she was going places. She had a great sound at 18.

Check it out now- we’ve been able to finalize our programs, and I think our line up will be worth the trip!

Thank you. Are there any specific hotels that you would recommend?

There are many hotels in the area- if you have a vehicle, you’ll have a lot more flexibility, and I’d suggest looking in the Pentagon City neighborhood, which will be a 5 minute drive from the gate.
If you will be relying on rideshare, I’d suggest the Sheraton Pentagon hotel, as it is the closest and fastest option from the gate that visitors will be using.
If you are military or government personnel, the base does have an IHG hotel that I would look into.
Once again, I cannot stress enough to look at our website for information on how to access base. Due to heightened security concerns, base access will take planning- look and plan ahead, please!

I’d look into the motels available on Route 1 in Virginia just outside the Beltway for more affordable options. Mrs. KWL’s uncle would stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites Alexandria Old Town South when he was in town on business.

I think I read somewhere but don't remember the details: How and where and when do you extend the pass beyond the one day as issued?

For all, but to answer Mr. Elliott’s question:

You get a pass- you can extend it at the beginning of each day, so long it is before the 24 hour period of expiration.
Example: you get a pass at 9am.
You would get to post and go to extend your pass at 8:50am, so you don’t have to do this again. I’d advise 20-30 minutes for check in.
This can all be found on the website, as well as this link:
https://home.army.mil/jbmhh/my-fort/all ... -gate-info

Please use the links. Please plan ahead. Please bring your identification*!
*Under 18 doesn’t need an ID but MUST be with an adult.

I caught the Navy brass quintet and the Arm6 Blues show with Nick Finzer today. Both were outstanding. Between shows I was walking around with my camera trying to get some skyline shots of DC and had to explain to the post police that I really was not a spy. I guess I got too close to something LOL. The guy was very nice about he whole thing.

Photos on any military base need authorization. Before I retired, if a construction worker needed to take photos I needed to ensure someone with the correct ID accompanied them. It wasn't unusual to have MPs call me and verify they were really legit.

I agree, navy quintet was pretty awesome. Blues too.

This was my first ATW and man was it amazing! I got to see all the concerts and exhibits on the last day today (28th) and had an absolute blast. I must say though this is only my 2nd time hearing Mr. Bassett perform live, he might just be my favorite performer I have seen!
