Getzen Custom line 3047AF, 3062AF, 3508

I’m interested in finding out a bit more about the Getzen Custom models, I’ve generally seen very positive comments about them in passing. They seem to be presented as the most popular designs from the custom Edwards line.

For those that have played both the yellow and red bells of these models, did you find you preferred one over the other or felt like one was a more balanced and versatile instrument?

Any other comments much appreciated!

I always prefer the yellow brass bells. For some reason I cannot project well with rose/ red brass. And my articulations and center of pitch in the high range are off. But that’s just me.
The 3062AF horns are great but VERY big. As big as the biggest of the largest Edwards horns. Dual bore, dual Thayer, bigger and heavier bell than some people go with now. Still a great horn but is not very forgiving. The 3047AF is a very popular setup like a T350 but without the edge bracing.
I really like the 3508.
Full disclosure: I worked for Getzen and play an Edwards B502IYAR and Getzen 4047ET. That being said, they aren’t the only game in town and I like to think I’m fair to the other brands as well.

Great horns. I wouldn't say they are the "most popular" Edwards combinations, but they work well and are competitive with most Edwards setups. The slide-bell connection is different between the 3047/3062 and their Edwards counterparts, but the 3508 is the same as Edwards, more or less an Edwards small bore with a mounted bell to neckpipe and the word "Getzen" stamped on it.

I would stick with yellow brass. Red kind of works on the 3508, but it's generally too warm at low volumes, too bright at high volumes, doesn't project as well, and eats up articulations and clarity. Red has a nice color and sound by itself but yellow brass just feels a lot more stable and easier to blend with. Edwards has some excellent rose brass bells that bridge the gap between them, including the one on the 4147IB.

If you try one of these and like it, I highly recommend you take a trip to Elkhorn so you have a few more options available. You could even ask them to have the Getzen horns available to try when you visit.

I'd say they are their own designs, but I'm not so familiar with Edwards side. Popular here, with good reason.
