Bach 16 Corp Silver Plated

Post by wesleyrubim »

Any thoughts on the Bach 16 corp silver plated?
Does the silver plate make it sound too different than the yellow one?
What to expect?

in my experience the silver plating itself doesnt make much if any difference. unless it is a super thick coating, it probably wont make a huge difference compared to bare brass. now the normal lacquered brass ones do have the layer of lacquer slightly affecting response. or maybe a lot depending on the specific horn and how crazily varied Bach's can be.

you'll see a bigger difference in sound comparing yellow and gold brass and if one is lacquered vs not.

I'm assuming you are comparing a silver plated one with a normal lacquered brass one? you'll see a difference in response but sound profile should be the same.

If you meant gold brass, you'll have to know if the bell under the silver plating is a yellow brass or gold brass bell. if the silver plated horn is yellow brass, then just compare to what you would expect from a gold brass bell and add on the response difference from lacquer layer

if you like how it sounds in raw brass, silver plated is just prettier looking assuming you like silver.

for bach's especially, i would suggest playing that specific example before making a purchase if you can.
