Cool! Do you guys have plans for alto trombones/alto trombone lead pipes in the future?

If you've followed me at all, you've heard me rave about this pipe I picked up off someone when they swapped out the pipe in their 52H. I have yet to put this pipe in anything that it wasn't the hands down winner.

I finally got my 525/547 Gezen slide threaded for Shires pipes back recently... popped in this 52H replica pipe y'all made for me. Every bit as good as my original, magic 52H pipe! I can't recommend this pipe enough!

Great to hear! You should try our VG25 as well.

I played that 52H lead pipe yesterday and took it home with my O’Malley slide. All of the pipes they had for .525 slides were great though.

What are the lengths for both?

Can a .525 leadpipe be manufactured to accept a large bore mouthpiece?

Can you share the smallest diameter (throat of the leadpipe) for both models? I find almost all of .525 leadpipes too resistant. I am wondering which one is more open.

I don't have my measurements on hand but I believe they are both slightly shorter than 9 inches - I'll check when I'm at the shop tomorrow and get that info for you.

Not from O'Malley at this time - some other manufacturers offer that option. Maybe in the future as we build more .525 slides and have some time to experiment with things. .525 leadpipes for large shank are either dangerously thin or require modified construction of the inner slide hardware.

.525 leadpipes are odd because your venturi size is constrained by the outer diameter of the end of a small shank mouthpiece which is typically around .422". Both of these pipes have a .420" venturi, but there are significant differences in taper and internal shape. I think an ideal venturi for a .525 pipe would be somewhere between .440 and .450".

From a manufacturing standpoint, medium bore trombone mouthpieces should probably have a uniquely sized medium shank to avoid the "venturi constraint" and "shank size vs. slide tube bore" issues.

The 52H is 8.875" long.

The VG25 is 8.5" long.
