Ephemeral quality of great

Just a little something that shows that “musicality” thing. A mother and daughter (both great Canadian and Maritime musicians) play a similar passage, but the difference is pretty clear. Natalie McMaster is a GOAT of the fiddle. The daughter doesn’t necessarily do the exact thing as mom for a living, but she’s game to learn where she’s at.

It would be hard to say the daughter was anything but fantastic by herself. It’s just side by side with the best it shows.

It seems that as trombonists we should probably find our “mothers” among the greatest of all musicians and not just other trombonists. Unless we put our cello suite rendition next to YoYo Ma’s or a vocalise next to a great tenor how are we going to know if we really make music?
