Gary Dafler finished up final tweaks this week. It started out as an Olds S-20 single rotor bass built in 1961, with all the features that entails. The rotor was too small, trigger was awkward, heavy slide-tuning mechanism, dual bore .554-.565" and 9" bell, but a sound that I've always enjoyed when played with a 2G. He grafted in a valve block from a 50b3O that seems to have had some tlc from Roy Lawler in the past, and trimmed the J-bend to bring it up to pitch and locate the bell rim in the conventional orientation with springs. The bell was previously cut by George Schlub. The resulting trombone plays quite nicely. Focus and color come easily, and double trigger notes pop out evenly compared to single trigger notes above and pedals below.

I saw Gary's Facebook post about this horn earlier today, sounds like a really fun horn now!
