I played bassoon for a year+ in college. I had no idea that painting stripes on them was a thing.

It seems that painted stripes are intended to imitate "tiger stripe maple", the traditional bassoon substance.

The previous painted stripes look like a very sad imitation of actual tiger stripe maple.


This looks like a much more promising faux-tiger-stripe method...
