Push-In Leadpipes to Try Out

I play a early Corporation-era Bach 50, which is stock but for a Hoelle copper tuning slide, and a John Sandhagen replacement of the original dependent valves with independent Instrument Innovations valves (which play great, by the way!)

The slide is the standard-issue with yellow-brass outers, and whatever Bach put into these horns as a stock leadpipe way back when.

While I have no obvious concerns with the existing leadpipe, I know from experience that they can make a big difference, and so was considering to yank the original leadpipe, and trying out various push-in options.

Is any vendor willing to send 2 or more removable, push-in leadpipes as likely candidates to try, allowing me to return what I don't want?

The one place I have contacted thus far only makes their leadpipes to order, and it's of course pricey and wasteful to order things you may not like and cannot return.

For what it's worth, the Bass leadpipes tend to resell pretty quickly. And, fortunately, some of the most popular aftermarket pipes are copies of Bach 50 pipes, which would be high on my list of recommendations personally. I personally play a Jack Schatz on a similar-ish horn, but a Bach 50 replica is a good starting point for a Bach, for obvious reasons.

O'Malley offers a leadpipe testing kit for bass (https://www.omalleyhorns.com/products/t ... ass-slides). It looks like it only has two models at the moment, but might still be worth a look. Maybe that's a trend that will catch on. I believe MK Drawing used to offer trials as well, but I think it was one pipe at a time, and I don't know if the program is still active.

I absolutely recommend the omalley VG50 pipe. Best one I have ever tried in my press fit slide.

Thanks, Aidan, your recommendations have been spot on to date, and O’Malley seems to be highly regarded.

Mike seems to have tried out different combinations of things as well, I’ll give them a call.

You can absolutely return my leadpipes as long as it's a standard type. You can try them for one week. Send me an email.
