Home Recording - Moonraker - On my Conn 70H Bass

Post by TheConnArtist70H »

Hi Ya'll :hi:

I was flicking through the old Backing track website and found this real nice Bond theme
from the Film Moonraker made back in 1979 and thought I'd give it a go.

The Video is a little naff but thought it might create the atmosphere. It would have been
better if a Lovely blond bond lady could have walked out of the Sea and onto the beach .... Mmm ? ;)

Have a nice day..... :good:

I love it! Very romantic. Ooh-la-la! :) Thanks so much for sharing it with us. I think that's a great bass trombone solo piece.

It would be even better if you'd hold those last notes of phrases all the way to the end of the phrase, though, and not cut them short if you have the air. Somehow holding them all the way out makes it sound even more romantic. Great job! Beautiful sound. Like a candle-light feather massage. :)

Great sound. How did the Conn 70H fall out of favour ?

Hi Guys, thanks so much for the kind comments. I totally agree with the longer phrasing on listening to this again, I just got a little excited when I heard the opening of this backing and thought wow I've got to record something on this one, so point taken. Yes we all know how special these 70 H's are, I use my 1954 model on all my Orchestral concerts and had no problem, received lots of positive comments on the sound, but is especially good to play on it's own on my ballads. I've got to say it's the best Horn I've played on and I have a lot of good vintage horns....... I suppose George helped make this model so well known in the commercial world..... so thanks George.

Nothing like a nice 70h sound! You really got the "George Roberts" style of playing :good:

I always love you guys' recordings (ConnArtist and Savio/Leif)!
I also have a nice 70h, but it has to compete with 3 (more) modern basses.
I love playing it, but did not get fully accustomed to it yet and have not yet got a good opportunity to play it out of home.
In my recent trombone ensemble concert, on short notice I played more bass than expected, including parts that were more comfortable on my 60/62h (due to the valves), so no concert for the 70h.

But its time will come!
