Protec Max for Conn 73H

Post by CBlair »

I purchased the Protec Max base case for my Conn 73H. It appears the slide does not fit in the slot.

A. Is this so, or is there something basic I am missing? (This slide is longer than others, obviously.)
B. If the case is not compatible, what are other reasonable alternatives?

I have been using the original factory case since buying this late Elkhart horn new in the early 70s. The case works, but I have become concerned about the integrity of the latches, the handle, and the box itself. A cheap solution might be just a couple of velcro straps.

Is it close? The Max is just foam. A sharp knife can make the slide opening larger.

My ProTec MAX bass trombone case (barely) accommodates my Conn 71H (long) slide,
(See photo.)

In your slide doesn't fit, try compressing the foam a bit, or if necessary, do some simple surgery with a sharp knife or X-acto blade.

Thank you for the replies. The idea of minor surgery occurred to me, as the slot is <1/2" short.

I contacted Protec and await a reply. Their description is clear that the case fits most modern basses. These Conns are closer to antique status, tho still decent.

I meant report the surgery went well. All is good.
