Slide Receiver Protection

Post by omilic »

Hello all,

I have rather acidic sweat and have been noticing an accumulation of wear on the slide receiver of my Edwards T-396A trombone, and I would like to avoid having my acidic hands interacting with and wearing at this part of my instrument.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions at to what I could do to best protect my slide receiver? I already own a pair of leather specialties left and right hand guards, however the left hand guard does not extend to the slide receiver.

Thank you in advance.

As you probably know, neglect in this area can lead to pitting of the metal itself.
Consider taping over the area with black electrical tape to match the leather accessory. Put down a layer of Saran wrap first if you want to protect the finish from the tape adhesive.

Black electric tape will make a sticky mess and stain your hands with the adhesive.

I've found Kapton tape to work well, it is thin, resists just about anything, and doesn't leave a sticky mess. As a side bonus it kinda matches brass. :)

Very good. I'll keep it in mind for my own horns.
