I’m a sucker for a new practice mute and bought the new version II Rejano mutes on release day. Since I’m in Los Angeles I just got them in today!

They’re made of either the same or similar material that the Merf mutes are made of. Kinda squishy plastic. All one piece which is neat and now I no longer have to worry about dropping the mute. Both my tenor and bass 2.0 mutes weight about the same as the originals.

They really do play better! The mutes are more resonant and open feeling. Intonation is about the same but feels better because of the more open blow. The mute might be a little louder than the original but it’s marginal.

Another thing to comment is I always found my 1.0 bass mute to fit great in any bass I tried it in. My 1.0 tenor mute only seemed to fit right in a Bach 42 and Shires. The 2.0 mutes I received have zero fit issues in my Raths and feel secure in bell.

I have to frequently play with a practice mute due to my work hours and living situation so I’m always looking for the best possible practice mute. I’ll post another review after a couple of weeks but the initial impression is very positive!

I just received mine today as well. The Gen I mute was the best practice mute I'd ever tried, and this is definitely an improvement.

Anyone looking to sell their old "crappy" gen I tenor mutes for cheap let me know LOL

I love my Rejano practice mute. I didn't realize there was a Gen II released. I don't love that it's all one color, but the mutes are so great, that it probably doesn't matter, and I may still buy one.

It's worth noting, in case no one has looked, they're running a 20% sale on Rejano mutes right now. I wonder when that expires. But getting a tenor mute for $72 and bass mute for $80, that sounds like a great deal for a brand new Gen II mute.

Hands down the best practice mute ... I didn't get a Gen I, so I don't have that as a basis to compare it to, but I really like this mute compared to any of the others I've owned and used over the years.

I think the special sauce is whatever material this mute and the Merf mutes are made out of!

Its nothing special. Thermoplastic Polyurethane.

It would certainly add to their durability! IIRC the pbone is made of ABS, so if you ever break it, you can make glue out of an appropriately colored Lego dissolved in acetone! (Don't try this unless you are familiar with the process)

Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) is a logical choice for those seeking enhanced Z axis integrity from parts printed using the Fused Deposition Modeling method. The Z axis is often a weak point, and in a brass instrument mute, that is the axis that will absorb torsional forces when installing the mute into your bell. Not a good combination, hence the use of a material like TPU that has good layer adhesion, good overall strength, and theoretically long term durability.

If you ever try a Merf mute they’re even squishier! Super cool how durable the material is.

Will these work on a small bore? Think King 2B or Bach 16.

I bought the gen II. I'm a little less than impressed with the unfinished look of the inside. It's covered in plastic "spiderwebs" and rough seams. One would think that a plastic mute that sells $90 at retail price has got to have enough profit margin to give it a more refined finish.

Oh wow! I just received my black (noir) mute in the mail today. And the inside isn't perfect, but it's not nearly as messy as yours. I wonder if the color has anything to do with it. So far I like the mute and it's miles ahead of the $30 protec mute I can compare it to at the moment.

I'll get around to comparing the Gen I to Gen II and post back here if I remember.
