Griego CS1 vs Griego 1

Post by Bassbone11 »

does anyone know the difference between these two mouthpieces? I have a deco gold plated 1 and a CS1 which I understand comes with getzen custom series basses but they blow completely differently. similarly sized, sure, but nothing about how they sound is similar, they seem to blow at different pitches (I think there might be some mental thing there to be fair), and they’re even different lengths. I’m no longer in possession of my 830 but I seem to remember them having different insertion depths there if that helps..

for context, I am currently on a Benge 290 and they have the same (or at least similar enough, I dont have calipers) insertion depth

my suspicions have been confirmed

outside practice session just like yesterday, same temp as yesterday, and I brought both to do some side-by-side testing. I definitely blow ~20c flatter on the Griego 1 than the CS1, now making the instrument unplayable at this temp unless I’m using the CS1. Leadpipe work confirms I’m blowing flat as well. Guess I’m in the market for a new mpc again 🙃

If memory serves, the CS1 spec wise is similar to their standard 1.5 piece. 27.99 rim diameter, .312” throat. I’m not sure about the cup depth comparison, but it should be close. The CS blank is similar to the Nouveau in shape and weight wise seems to be between the NY and Nouveau (my opinion). I don’t remember lengths being different.

The 1 is, of course, bigger and heavier all the way around; 28.4, .315”, Deco blank. I would expect them to play completely differently. Not many similarities there other than both being Griego mouthpieces.

If you want to keep your mouthpieces instead and offload the 290, let me know. :D
