Ha ! Ha! Ha!.......so this is what the music world is coming to. When it comes to my gig, I'll retire.

A tablet is pretty heavy for any lyre style music holder. I certainly wouldn't trust one on the march.

I'll bet there's something for runners to hold a tablet that maybe goes around your neck or chest and holds it securely. It just won't attach to the instrument.

There are bell clamps that hold phones and some tablets. I got one for a phone…. Grip-o-phone. It is one of the top hits online when you search. Too weak to even hold a lighter weight iPhone. DO NOT RECOMMEND. The folks theee seemed great to work with, but their product is absolute trash. (I’d write in harder language, but this is a family site….)

Just don’t. It sucks. It doesn’t really work.

Better to start memorizing those charts like a real musician! ;)

Thanks for the input. I am looking for my son (high school) he does memorize the show so he doesn't use a lyre, but they do have a large selection of stand tunes (old and new) and I thought it would be helpful. Sorry to upset all the professional musicians.

Not a matter of professional vs amateur - I just think tablets are too heavy to mount on a trombone, whether using a lyre, bell clamp, or ...

Perhaps I'm wrong? :idk:

Using it for stand tunes makes more sense.

The lighter the tablet, the better off you'll be. Have you considered an eReader? A Kindle is lighter than an iPad Mini and is optimized for reading documents.

Have him hang the tablet around his neck, and mount a mirror in the lyre.
I wonder if that would actually work!

It's not just for kids.

As an adult with bifocals I find it impossible to use a lyre. I ended up helping out a high school band with football games and everybody but me could use a flip folder in the stands, but I needed an actual music stand.

That said, I wouldn't be able to see a tablet at lyre distance either. So I take it back. It IS just for kids.

You're not upsetting me or anyone else I'm sure. I'm old and a technophobe. Plenty of people are using this tech now. It would just be the last straw for me.

IMHO tablets are too heavy to mount directly to the horn, not to mention even the smaller ones are too big. Kinda hard to march if you can't see where you are going. The trombone is kinda unique in that aspect as the bell is already in the way of the field of vision.

Most of the lyre-style mounts I see are for a phone, though there's still a bunch of issues.
