Gold Plating companies.

Post by DrTbone43 »

Please suggest companies that specialize in gold plating a trombone mouthpiece or simply refurbishing an existing silver piece.
Thank you,
Ron

I have had good service from https://goldchops.com/

The quality of the plating is not as high as Anderson, but you do one mouthpiece at a time, the price is very reasonable, and the turnaround time is quick.

Stork mouthpieces also does plating services. I would trust them with any refurbishment needed: https://storkcustom.com/mouthpieces/customizations/

I also highly recommend Stork for replating. I've had them re-plate several mouthpieces in silver, and was very satisfied. I would imagine that their gold plating would be equally good.

Go with Stork. One of my mouthpieces is currently with them. They've done nothing but great work in the past for me.

What all does Stork do when you send them a piece? Do they buff it and clean it before plating?

I know he lightly buffs (if necessary). I imagine that cleaning before plating is a necessary and crucial part of the plating process for optimal results.

From the Stork link in Gabe’s post:

“We generally turn gold plating around in 2–3 business days. The mouthpiece is prepped with minimum intrusiveness.
Depending on the condition of the mouthpiece, and the wishes of the owner, this can be as simple as putting the piece into a cleaning bath, or if the owner desires we can remove dents and scratches, etc.
The degree to which this occurs is entirely up to the owner and must be specifically directed by the owner. Additional charges for this type of work are possible.
The original plating does not need to be completely removed if it is still adhering well (i.e. not flaking or peeling off).
The inner diameter is never altered.”
