Courtois Florida hand rest setup

Post by Tassill »

Hello All,

Just wondering if anyone has advice on how the Courtois Florida hand rest is supposed to be setup?

It feels to high too me, but if i rotate it down wards towards the slide then it hits the screw fitting. I can slide it inwards towards the bell to rotate it down more, but then the section that is clamped will only be supported by 1 of the fastenings.

Have googled and couldnt find any guides.

Cheers

Just out of curiosity, did it come from the factory with the horn? I’ve been trying to get my hands on one for over a year and have tried contacting a lot of different people at Courtois.

From the few I’ve tried, my impressions is similar to yours. Though, I’d bet you can probably shave off some of the part that touches the nut to get closer to what you want, assuming it’s the wood bit I remember.

Though if you don’t want to do that, you could try and bend the brace. If you do that, make sure you don’t do it while it’s in the horn. Not recommending that though, I would have to have a solid plan before trying bending or sanding personally.

You could go the one clamp route and it could be totally fine… or not. If they designed it with two, I’d use both.

I would recommend contacting Courtois, but I haven’t been able to contact anyone after dozens of emails and phone calls. Even the dealers I’ve talked to have said it’s very difficult to get an answer that’s substantial. Their website has US phone numbers and emails if you want to go that route

Yeah it came with the horn.

It just doesnt make a lot of sense being positioned above the slide to me, but i might just give it a go in one of these high positions and maybe it will work well ?

Courtois if you are reading this, make a you tube video.

That's the same hand rest that's on the b&s horns if the marketing photos are correct. It's very easy, I can make a video with my horn.

Multiple big dealers and the Jacksonville head office. I’ve left several voicemails with their brass guy who seems to always be out and never gives me a call back. It’s been over a year of reaching out every month or two. The low-brass product specialist email has also been a dead end. I don’t wait to derail this thread too much, but if you have any suggestions, please feel free to share them.

Not to sidetrack too much, but I figured I’d post an update here. I was able to get a hand rest at ITF from the Courtois booth. A big thank you to Warren Kus for helping me out.

For the set up, I see the issue that the OP mentioned. I had to take my rest off, bend it very slightly inwards, and then it was good to go. Initially the rest would hit the slide and I wasn’t able to get it in a position that felt comfortable. Of course, YMMV. If anyone feels they need help figuring it out, feel free to send me a PM.
