Medical woes
Does anyone here have experience playing trombone while having a Foley catheter inserted? I’ve had one for one week now, and I haven’t yet returned to playing.

Re: Medical woes
I would guess the big issue would be the internal pressure forcing more urine into the bag. We have a bunch of catheter users here, but none of them play musical instruments.
Good luck. Hope it isn't too painful.

Re: Medical woes
The only sound effects I heard were “drip drip drip” and “ow ow ow ow ow!”
Seriously, urinary retention is VERY painful. When the hospital finally inserted the catheter a week ago, about 1200 ml of urine were drained. Average bladder size is about 450-700 ml.
But good news: the catheter was removed yesterday, and I passed my voiding test! Hurray! Maybe it’ll happen again, maybe it won’t, but now I know what it feels like. My first notes will be this afternoon. Wish me luck!

Re: Medical woes
Did they give you a weight restriction? Asking if you can lift something heavy or if you can perform the valsalva maneuver might be a possible way to put your question into terms a nurse could answer.
But, fingers crossed you don't have to go through it again. Good luck!
