What model Conn is this?

Post by Kingfan »

I bought an estate sale tbone. I'm familiar with Kings, but not Conns. P in front of the serial number puts it at 1971 from what I see on line. Original wood Conn case. Bell engraving has three marching figures on it. Is it a Director, or something else?
I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are still missing! :D

Usually the model number is stamped near the slide tenon or the bell receiver. If it's a Director, that will usually be stamped on the mouthpiece receiver side of the slide.

I looked the horn over and the slide tenon has microscopic stamping, looks like 77-HH02. Do I have a Connquest? It is musty, has dents in the bell and small dents in the outer slide, but no visible wear to the inner slide and the tuning slide works well. It'll be for sale if anybody is interested.

Sounds like that's probably a yes on the Connquest. I have a '69 but it doesn't have 77H anywhere I can find. It does have Connquest stamped on the mouthpiece receiver like you would see on a Director. But I could be wrong about yours.

Thanks, everybody! What is it worth as is? Should I sell it as is, or give it a bath and take it to my tech to take the dents out best he can, work on the slide, align the water key, etc. and then try and sell it?

Not a sought after instrument as best I can tell. Might be good to try to sell to a beginner in the fall. Maybe $300 max?
