I was searching for a Piccolo trombone, but the only place I could find them was from wessex tubas. Does anyone know of any other place that you can buy them from? (Possibly cheaper than $500)

Thein……. Definitely not under $500 and I’m not sure if they still make them. I think at one time they made soprano, sopranino, piccolo, and piccolino (show horn for German Brass) bones. Could always contact them, though.

Have heard about piccolos made by Minick and Robb Stewart. Others much more knowledgeable than me could confirm. And ….if you could find one….doubtful that it would be close to your price point. Wessex might be it of current makers for anything above soprano.

The only options are the Thein, the Chinese clones of the Thein (e.g. Wessex), or those $10 3D-printed ones.

Pretty much the only place I see them used is in videos of European trombone choirs. It's just not a common instrument, so pretty much the only makers are going to be those in Europe.

There is one for sale at the SF Bay Area Craigs List. It’s been listed for quite a while, so maybe not so much interest from local Tbone buyers. Have fun.

There would be a "best mouthpiece" argument for it almost instantly, too. And a long, bloviating treatise by user Capt. Kirk.

If it's just for fun, get a Chinese one, it will be cheap and do the job. They are effectively a slide piccolo trumpet, if you're looking for a mouthpiece for it. The Thein will almost certainly be a better instrument, but probably 10x the price, which is only okay if you have money burning holes in your pocket.

get the chinese one. the thein piccolino was $2300 last i inquired like a decade ago or so for fun. no doubt more now or possibly the same.

Honestly, I wouldnt be entirely surprised if they probably just draw a number out of a hat everytime someone asks. low on a day you catch someone having a good day and high if you catch someone on a bad day

I think soprano trombones are a nice addition to the trombone family. It can not be denied that they have not much use in the real world but it is still nice and fun and you can make real music on it. I recommend finding a used jupiter, I think they are solid and can be had for cheap. Piccolos are a bit to extreme for my taste.
