Mount Vernon 42 slide bore size

Hi all,

I’m currently the owner of two Mount Vernon 42 slides and I’m wondering if any part of the bore size is smaller than their modern counterparts. On one of the slides I replaced the end crook with an M/K drawing & bending .605 bore and it opened the sound A LOT!

Were the Mount Vernon slides made with a smaller crook than the .600 bore we see on the 42 slides today? It sure feels like it… my guess would be the crooks used to be made with somewhere around a .580 bore size.

Any chance the tech still has the old crook?

Early 45 slides (where 42 slides came from) had a slide tube bore crooks, if your MV was early it might have had a slide bore crook. Waa the wrap handbent?

idk about the wrap being handbent. It’s a later MV from around 1962. I have one from 1960 as well that feels more open.

Yeah I understood. I meant I have no idea if it’s hand bent or not.

It's pretty obvious, they look wonky compared to the "modern" closed wrap they've had since.
