Cutting a bass bell

This may be asked several times, but does somebody has experiance in how a bass bells sound, response etc. changed by cutting it and installing a screw ring?

Makes the bell act like one weight heavier. Both of mine have ended up a bit too heavy for my tastes.

Yup, I tell people never cut a bell you love, cut a bell that is a bit too bright.

I cut a few bells per year
