I grew up and spent most of my life in Los Angeles, so I was spoiled -- going to Larry Minick or Robb Stewart when I needed anything done that I couldn't do myself. Now I'm in New Orleans and don't know where the quality craftspeople are.

I have a vintage Conn 88h, a Rath R10 and a Bach 50b3, all of which really haven't been played in 10 years and clearly need some restoration to get back to their peak now that I'm picking them up again. Probably a full restoration of the 88h, but ultrasonic cleaning, slide alignment and valve reseating for all of them at least -- well beyond my skillset and tool bench.

Anyone know a quality person in New Orleans or surrounding cities that does good quality work like that? I'd drive as far as Houston or Atlanta if needed. Or should I really just be mailing them to Brass Medic or someone like that?

We do chem cleans and slide work; I won’t claim that we’re on par with Minnick and Rob Stewart, but we do good work. Many (most?) of the jazz trombonists in town come to us. We typically don’t specialize in full restorations or overhauls, but we do rebuild horns and do custom work.

We’re in the 8th ward, feel free to DM for details.

Hah, I’ve misspelled both Robb Stewart and Larry Minick; rest assured I re-seat bearing plates more carefully than I type.

Just logged in after too long and wanted to mention -- Riley does fantastic work if you need someone in New Orleans!
