Looking to soon(ish) get a Doug Elliot setup for my yamaha. Currently using a Dennis Wick 4AY, which I believe is roughly an I cup in Doug's system. It works well enough, but I prefer the N104 I use on my tenor trombones. Curious what those that have used the 321 and DE pieces have used.

You can use an I cup with I4 shank, but I think on that horn most players prefer a shallower cup like H with H4 or G with G4. I haven't tried any of that myself.

It might be interesting to try my SYM series N104 with SYM H-euph and H4. I suspect that would be a winner. More cup volume by being wider instead of deeper.

What would be the benefit of going wider vs deeper?

I mostly use the setup that Doug recommended (XT I4). Recently I've been experimenting with a wider rim than my 104 (trying the 106) and that feels pretty nice on Euph too.

A few month ago I had to cover a French Horn part with Euph and as it was pretty high I played on a E4 setup. Works as well, just a lighter sound and a bit easier to play the higher stuff soft.

Before that I played a Yamaha 52 on that instrument which was fine too.

I don't know... I don't have a YEP321.

Deep cups and #4 backbores do not work well on other valve instruments that are less conical. At least some baritone horns, bass trumpets, valve trombones etc. need more focus and do better with #2 backbores and/or shallower cups.
