F. Schmidt Trombone

Post by ZachK »

Hello,
I saw a post earlier on here about an F. Schmidt trombone and trying to figure out if it was made in Germany or China, and I was wondering if anyone could help me? I found this on ebay and got it down to $325+40$ shipping, so I'm trying to see if it is a good fit for me.

Hey Zack. I'll chime in. Certainly no expert, but the post you may be referring to was likely mine. From the helpful folks on this board, this appears to be one of the China horns, made for Brook Mays (here in Tx). The F. Schmidt that I once owned had only "F. Schmidt" on the bell. It also had the ULW3 engraving on the slide, which denoted the Ultra Light Weight moniker that Courtois used on their stenciled horns. I believe mine also had nickel silver outer slide tubes.
I'll let you determine value of this one you're pursuing. I will say that mine played exceptionally well, but I sold it when I didn't have use for a large bore at the time.

Yes, this one is Chinese-made.
