Hi all,

I see a lot of used horns with various stuff wrapped around the gooseneck. I've never played one that had such a treatment. I wonder why so many folks do that.

Maybe skin sensitivities? Does it have any sonic effects? Comfort?

LOL, okay fair enough... Laundry concerns was not at the top of my list

And, sometimes laundry can't fix green collar on white shirt...

I put a wrap on my XO 1032 to avoid lacquer damage from skin oils when I had it…played the same with or without it. Now I just keep up on wiping the horn down after each use and just don’t worry about the wrap anymore.

I'm just going to start wearing green shirts. Why didn't I think of that before?

What is that it was wrapped with? Looks like maybe Kraft paper?

Black shirts don't show the green stain either, Doug.

I have highly acidic sweat and must protect my gooseneck. Those clear plastic tubes made for protecting slides can be cut to fit and there’s no unsightly leather or tape wrap to see.

Don't know. It was some kind of heavy paper. I've posted other photos. One had been wrapped with electrical tape - same disgusting mess underneath.

i recently acquired a 1914 Conn Innes and you could clearly see and that it had a wrap with adhesive of some sort before. the glue had dried and like baked, etched, and hardened itself in such a way you could see and feel the little spirals of the glue along the satin silver plating along the neckpipe and partway up the tuning slide. that glue had somehow become like a sort of plating on top of the silver plating and wouldn't come off. Ultrasonic cleaning and other cleaning didnt work so I just had the tech try to buff/sand through the glue as much as possible and maintain as much of the silver plating underneath as possible. fortunately the tech was able to get through the glue and only have to go trhough a little of the silver plating. unfortunately that meant that part of the horn was polished silver plate rather than satin silver plate but it matches the polished silver plating of the slide section now and i dont have to feel those ridges of glue on my neck when i play it.
