I've heard this great piece a handful of times and can't help but notice Ken's amazing sound in the background.
I am aware Ken used to play a Conn 70H Single or maybe modified with a 2nd Valve.

Does any of the Pro's out there who were lucky enough to play with Ken to know what he may have used on this
particular recording, was it the 70H, or did he by any chance own and play a 73H ?

It would be great to know, if anyone out there could help. :???:

Can't answer your question but isn't that arrangement just eloquent in its simplicity and execution.

No problem djhendy - apologies for my late reply. So pleased you responded. I have to say I'm a little saddened by the lack of response from the forum on this one, but hey ! it is what it is, hopefully someone may come forward.

In the meantime, along with the above amazing Bill Holman number, I personally think this piece by the great Patrick Williams ( Mandeville ) is a perfect sample of the Trombone abilities and skill, with the inclusion once again of our French Horn friends who make such a huge difference to the big band sound.

Features in order of play as follows.

Bass Trombone - Craig Gosnell ( Wow )
Tenor Trombone - Bob McChesney ( Wowee )
Solo Trombone - Andy Martin ( Holy )

So proud to be a Trombone player..........

Take care Y'all

At time Kenny used a 70h with burt Herrick leadpipe he hold that slide after that too he give me few years ago his horn for 15 days we are friends....was a 70's 73h with custom holton valves from 180 and same old conn slide from 70h Harrick pipe
But Kenny are really funny change all times trombone, mouthpiece, leadpipes ...hard to understand
In 50's ,60's was more on 70h

Correct me if I'm wrong, and not to discount the amazing sound these Musicians made, but the sound we hear is a result of close micing in the studio and skilled recording and EQ from the recording tech.

Maybe in my next life I might come within a few miles of their talent and Musicianship!
