At 8:03 of this concert video there is a piece called Bruckner Etude for Low Brass.

They hit a few of those chords that create that sound that only a low brass section can make. Pretty tasty.

Very nice recording!

Obviously the same version that originally German brass recorded as opposed to the 6 trombones version. I love the recording by the New Trombone Collective and personally think that this piece works best with contrabass trombone at the bottom instead of tuba.

I am lucky to have done a recording of it myself 12 years ago which also turned out to be quite nice. A few years ago I played it with 2 Wagner tubas and 4 trombones - that was also a nice mix.

The Concertgebouw brass is Really nice - and they publish quite a lot on YouTube.

(There is also a 4 trombones version of that piece which I played around 20 years ago. By far not as satisfying in my opinion. the octaves in parts 1 and 2 as well as 5 and 6 add so much to the sound)

Great piece, and the Concertgebouw brass sounds lovely as always. I've performed the 5th part on the 6-trombone version, with tuba...the descending pesante 8th notes at around 13 minutes are a magnificent moment for a locked-in bass trombone and tuba pair.

The tubist in the video sounded great on his F tuba, but I do prefer a contrabass tuba for this piece. It's grandiose enough that it almost feels like there's a full orchestra in front, and that huge core just feels more appropriate for that to me.

Great programming all around as well - I love that on the Bach, the flugelhorn player stood next to the trombones as that part functions as the top voice of the trombone choir. A great example of how well flugels and trombones blend.

Enrique Crespo did compose a beautiful low Brass Etude im Stil Bruckners für das tiefe Blech.

I absolutely love it, performed three times over the years

Once with trombone sexttett with two bass trombones, me on 5th

Next with tuba euph sextette, me on 3rd with euph

Finally a mix of Tubas 6 trombones, 5 bass and 3 tenor, euph 4 and two french horns for 1 and 2.

It is a pleasure to play in all combinations.
