King bass handslides

Post by Chazzer69 »

Do the 6/7/8B all use the same handslide? Guessing yes, but just want to get confirmation or correction.

Thanks.

I have now a duogravis from 72 and then a 8b from 80's I think the leadpipe is different

No. The Duo Gravis hand slide has a different width end crook and it is slightly narrower and longer than the 7B/8B hand slides. At least the earlier ones. I had a 1972 Duo Gravis and the slide differed from my 7B slide as I described. I recently had a new end crook put on my 7B, and Chuck Ward luckily had one laying around. He said the Duo Gravis end crook wouldn’t work. All three slides have different lead pipes from each other as well.

Anyone no the length of a 6B hand slide? I'm looking to replace the tubes on some HS horns and I'm working with Shires parts as potential replacements.

Tubes measure 24 1/2” from the end of the cork barrels. Barrels seem to be about another 2” if this helps.

Are you going to replace with the yellow brass tubes? I wonder how much the Shires tubes weigh vs the King tubes.

As the OP, I had an ulterior motive for asking the question which I never followed up on. I'm in the market for a used/cheap/trashed slide that I can pull the upper cork barrel (mouthpiece side) from as a potential replacement part for a totally different horn. Or just the cork barrel sans remainder of the slide would be ideal. The question probably belongs in the classifieds, but if anyone on this thread has one...
