Your Doug Elliott collection.

Post by hyperbolica »

Here's my DE set (minus one, I had an E4 hiding on me). 10 full mouthpieces and 5 extra shanks.

2 bass bone, both K8 one LB 112 one XB 114
1 euph J 104
A G and an F that can go large or small shank.
I have two E cup pieces with 3 and 4 shanks, the 4 is a 4S - for small. Fits some of my smaller shank Conns. I find I use E cups on 525 bores a lot
Kind of went crazy in the D and D+ because the D+ were crazy good.
Smallest is C2

Mostly XTn104 lexan rims, one silver plated, and 1 Parker stainless rim which comes close to fitting the XT cups.

I used to have alto, large tenor, and bass DE setups, but I only have an XT N106/C+/D3 piece now for my King.

Doug's rim shapes and size options are the best part about that system. If you want a small bore piece with a bass rim, there are almost no other options on the market. The cups are all good too. His small bore and alto mouthpieces are where his lineup really shines.

Large tenor I’m on a SYM 104 lexan G and G8
Bass I have two, LB and XB lexan 112 K and K8
Just got my contrabass mouthpiece CB lexan 118N L L10

It would take me a week to even find all my Elliott collection

My favorite piece is sitting next to me now, Lexan XT104N / D+ / 3.5. Absolutely perfect, even down into the pedal register!!

An M cup with a G shank will make it a tad long, no?

Also the throat must be overlapping the exit port of the cup. If you think a G shank on it is good I can guarantee you an M shank will blow your socks off!

An M cup should have an M shank. The .G9 is at least 25 years old, and would be a horrible match for an M cup. You won't see any mismatch.

Does the dot mean anything in particular? I have a .G7 in my parts box.

1990's, several years at a point when I changed backbore designs. I've made a few more changes since then.

Finally found most of mine… LT on the top, LB on the bottom. Been the primary Tenor piece since ‘97? (ITF at Illinois), and bass piece since ‘99.

Cheers,
Andy

Alto 101C with alto shank
Small tenor 101D3
Medium tenor 101 E4
Large tenor 102G+8
Euphonium 102 I9
Bass trombone 112W K9 or L9
I've tried using just the 101 or 102 rim on Tenor but it just works better with the 101 on small bores and the 102 on large shank instruments

Conn 36H (in D/A) - ST95C-Alto S
Conn 74H - ST98C -2
Conn 88H - LT100(gold)G -8 and LT102H -8
Hybrid BHR Bass - LB114(gold)E -8. Used for big band bass trombone parts. I use a Doug Yeo Signature for orchestral stuff; less edge and more rounded sound.

Also LB116(gold)M -8. This came as a job lot with the other bass trombone mouthpiece above. It doesn't work at all for me so it sits on a shelf. Why don't I sell it? I can't think why anyone would want to buy it!

FWIW that's a rather popular underpart combination. Rim isn't that uncommon either.
