Hi,
I recently bought an old B&S trombone (viewtopic.php?t=34204).
Its working pretty ok but there is a spring at the end of the slide (first position) that is very annoying due to the noise every time i hit it when going back to first position.
How common is this spring in modern trombones?
Is it possible to change that spring by a single bumper cork?
will it affect tuning? the slide will go like an inch deeper if the spring is removed.

The springs can be pulled/removed. Replacing them with an appropriate amount of felt or cork is also rather simply done. Intonation should be no problem.

Slide springs are not terribly common. Mostly used by Conn on large bore instruments 50-75 years ago. Some large bore Kings also have springs, but they are much shorter travel.

The springs can be removed and replaced by cork, felt, or rubber bumpers. The thickness of the bumper can be adjusted so that there is little overall effect on tuning.

is the spring easy to remove "at home"? i have replaced corks before without problem.
