Suggestion. To get responses I'd repost this under Hardware in the Instruments section. Good Luck!!!

I guess the question is, "Do you like your Shires?" If you do, then a Q large bore is a logical next step.

Have you played axial flow valves? They are an option with the Q horns that isn't available with the Bravo. So, I'd look for a way to try (ideally several) Q horns equipped with axials and rotary valves and see what works best for you.

If you don't like your Shires, you should be asking yourself what you don't like and how you'd like things changed. Then I'd start looking for instruments in my price range that are more like what I wanted.

Finally, you should be talking about this stuff with your teacher: if you don't already have a teacher, you should stay on the Bravo (they're good step-up horns) and spend some of that money on lessons.

Any yellow bell model Q series have the most consistency compared to the gold bells. Tgat being said I've played some grat playing 30GR and 30GA bones.
6H (K series)
6H (early 60s)
4H/5H custom bell
78H ('53)
78H (K series)
78H/36BG /2547 slide
8H
88HN
71H (dependant valves)
72H
35H alto (K series)

It is a good horn. The real question is whether it's a good fit for your playing style, or if something else would work better.

Bearing in mind that most players go through changes of equipment as their playing matures, the Shires Q is an excellent place to start and might be the just fine for most playing for many.

I have a 30GR going on 3 yes. I choose this over the YR, the Alessi, and axial valve versions. Didn't like the feel of the linkage, rotor seemed more immediate. Slide is phenomenal. Easily best horn I've had.

I also tried the against Bach 42, 47, and Conn 88H.
